THE AUDIO-LINGUAL METHOD
I like the part that says mistakes are bad and should be avoided, as they make bad habits because it is true. When we have a word we cannot say if no one tells us we start saying that word in the same way. But I am not in agreement with the part showed that said language skills are learned more effectively if they are presented orally first, then in written form because I think first than all we have to understand, and then try to speak, and later write.
Hi again. In my point of view you are right when you say that first we have to understand what we are learning (the target language) but it does not mean that we have to translate right? and then step by step we are going to develop the other skills. I like reading but not too much, so i will not use the whole language method, because first you have to be confortable on what you are teaching if not how are you going to make students feel comfartable. I really like the example Juanita (Anita) mentiones in her blñog about the Total physical response method, so I invite you to go and comment about it.
